Chronopost: just as useless as many UK courier companies

Not not sure whether it is a comfort to discover that Chronopost (Chronic-post?) is just as useless as many UK couriers and delivery companies like Parcelfarce. I was due to receive a package from Chronopost sent from Nantes today before 1pm. Nothing.

Around 1.30pm I get a call from the Chronopost office in Tours. I'm told – the driver couldn't find my address, couldn't find it on his GPS and couldn't get his mobile to work in Epeigné-les-Bois.

Clearly the driver doesn't understand the concept of asking someone – Epeigné still has a bar and a post office in the village. Our address comes up fine on our GPS – perhaps Chronic-post should switch to Garmin. I agree that the mobile signal in the centre of Epeigné isn't very strong but the driver could easily have found slightly higher ground and phoned my land line from there.

My caller from Tours seemed apologetic and as unimpressed as I was with the driver's entire lack of initiative but not prepared to make a special effort to get the package to me. Unable to guarantee an early morning delivery – just anytime up to 1pm. I hope Chronopost offer the sender a refund for their incompetence but I have a feeling they won't.

The courier company that guaranteed to make a serious effort to deliver on time or your money back would clean up, providing they could find enough intelligent drivers.

Nice rant! - try the UK PO in the next few weeks and Chronopost will seem more acceptable!

Fair comment Henri but UK POs charges are not yet as high as Chronopost. You pay for a service you don't get.

Maybe their like fedex in the US, the delivery telephone # means nothing, they never call it.
Any tips for wine bars in London?

Jim,
I've several year's experience here with Chronopost, Fedex, DHL and Midnite Express. I always use Chronopost for international work and they're spot on. Delivery when promised and you get an e-mail confirmation with a scan of the recipients signature on the delivery note. Likewise Chronopost are fine in France when sending to larger cities. Where they all break down is when delivering to rural areas like Epeigne. Deliveries from all four tend to be subcontracted and that's where the service breaks down, because the subcontractors quality of service varies greatly. Overall Fedex seems to use the best local couriers. Hope your parcel has/will arrive soon !
